lost: the old hat. found: re-kindled friendships, pictures of john's kids, new memories to be made! i have finally fished the o'keefe hat, version 2.0. i tried to duplicate the old hat as close as possible with the seed stitch brim, stripes and manly poof, but update it a little with thicker yarn and nicer ear flaps. warm and fuzzy east coast hat; modeled by ben.

lost and found
For John O'Keefe (again)

imaginary outfit
knitting in the outdoor cafe
lately i have been admiring even*cleveland's imaginary outfits, and i decided to make one for myself- what fun to image myself sitting in an outdoor cafe somewhere in town, knitting and coffee in hand! i have just completed my last finals ever, so as soon as the snow clears up i will be gone and away outdoors and my knitting needles will go with me.

nowhere spring

i want to fall asleep in the middle of a field
between buildings and bike paths where the mean geese are nesting
in my blue gloves and scarf where things are flying
mistaken by a traveler for the wind
the spring causeway a drifted gust speaking in turns
flight and flee to me and drink the sent of bees
where the sunlight everywhere is hot and hiding
and by the time I wake you are with me
and here we dance across like water spiders and dandelion seeds
turn up the sound of the rain
there is plenty of nothing to be
and nowhere

listen to this
my favorite band is releasing a new album, and you can hear the whole thing here. they wrote every song while trapped indoors during a snowstorm, which is just how i am feeling now, trapped inside not by weather but by the upcoming and last ever finals. soon friends, there will be knitting, indian food, and time to be outdoors ... in the mean time, we keep calm, carry on, dance inside our heads.

rhubarb
not as scary as it seems....

i've always been afraid of rhubarb. oh, i love it in pie and would delight in jam that others had made for me, and often would i ponder the possibility of making it myself... but lo, when i would find it in the grocery store all i could think was "this goes into pie? how?? why??" and so i stayed away for many years. until today. as it turns out, rhubarb requires no special processing to be put in a pie. it's true! the boiling, harvesting, blending and straining you imagined? a myth, cultivated by those who know this strange plants secrets! i am here to reveal them now. to put rhubarb into pie or jam just follow these simple instructions:
1) cut it. like celery.
2) marinate it with your fruit of choice, and sugar and flour, for half an hour.
3) that's it. no joke.

the recipe for this wonderful pie can be found here. also, it seems that rhubarb (in season now) is a very hearty plant which can easily be frozen, thawed, and used next winter in this same recipe. how amazing is that? so now repeat after me: rhubarb is our sour friend, to be used in many dishes and no longer feared. got it? class dismissed.
