Dearest friends just had the most beautiful baby! I made her this blanket in the dandelion colorway:

The pattern is simple and fun and the yarn is soft, delightful to knit, and machine washable.

Fall is in the air and so is love. This was the most wonderful pattern to knit with soft skeins of giant yarn. I am so happy with the result, which is the perfect throw for a newlywed couple to cuddle up under in the early days of autumn.

The Troup baby was born!  Hooray!  And I finished the zigs, only slightly late.

This was a joy to send off for baby's use, and a joy to knit as well.  The pattern is simple but interesting, and was perfectly suited to the situation... 

The then Mom-to-be had emailed all the old collagen knitting gang with the news, saying she wanted to send us all yarn as she was turning the sewing room into a nursery.  I agreed to take the yarn; but only on the condition that I send it right back to her in knit form. When I got the box of yarn I had to double check that she was having a boy, because she sent me all blue!  And she was, and did. 

Congratulations Troupers!

Made from the Brooklyn Tweed Girasole pattern in KnitPicks Comfy Worsted Blackberry.  Started in January and completed just after the wedding in September.  Almost 2,000 yards of yarn, 9 months of knitting, 8ft in diameter, and so much love.

It's the season for making tea and curling up under a blanket with a good book or some knitting.  Lucky for us, our friends and family gave us some wonderful gifts I thought I would share with you today.

 

On the left, a quilt from our my Grandma, "Flowers in the Cabin", which she commissioned for our wedding day.  On the right, Kivrin enjoying the hand knit blanket made by DH's aunt.  She apparently started this project before she knew I was a knitter and worried what I would think.  But as I told her, crafters appreciate these kinds of gifts even more; we know the love and effort that went into them.

For The Doremuses

May I present one of my most favorite projects in a long while; a beach throw for Ben's parents that I brought as a house warming gift when we visited in Puerto Rico. I loved the way it looked thrown over the back of a chair facing a window with a view of the ocean. The lace pattern is feathers and fans, so I figured this is the perfect meeting of sea and sky.


From the BrooklenTweed Hemlock Ring pattern, this was actually much easier to knit than it looks. K on circular US 10s, it is the perfect airplane project with one set of needles, one pattern, and lots of beautiful soft yarn, and it turns out very impressive. I will echo others advice when they say count your stitches on this one, but usually it is pretty easy to tell when something is wrong; counting is easier when every other st is supposed to be a yo! here is a sneak peak at my most recent knitting endeavor- a lap blanket for ben's parents! we are visiting them in peurto rico oh so soon, and i am looking forward to this project being completed.



a note for all you out there looking to knit a throw and wondering how best to block: splurge on the pins. when you visit your local craft store and look through the numerous options and boxes of pins, you may be tempted, as i was, to say; "9 bucks for pins with heads?? no way!" and go with the more utilitarian flat headed pins. this was not the correct choice. my fingers are very unhappy after all the pin pushing it took to stretch this blanket out (246 !!!). go for the round headed pins, maybe with some pretty colors. your fingers will thank you.
