We've had the most magical Christmas holiday. There was so much snow and cider by the fire in our cabin and meatballs and Soca bounding through the snow as we hiked and adventures in driving through the mountains in winter and hot springs and time with family and friends and bean games and thoughtful gifts and joy and love.
Thanks to everyone for a truly magical year. I'm so happy we're friends. I'll see you in 2015!

Beautiful fall weekend which included a visit to the dog park, coffee, pumpkin bread, picking rhubarb, naps, laundry, and Indian food. DH is out of town for hunting, so things are pretty low key this week.
Stop by anytime will you? After work I'll be making apple bread and rhubarb jam, and hopefully doing some knitting.

Fall is in the air and so is love. This was the most wonderful pattern to knit with soft skeins of giant yarn. I am so happy with the result, which is the perfect throw for a newlywed couple to cuddle up under in the early days of autumn.

Happy thirtieth birthday to my best friend and cousin! I just spent the most wonderful weekend in Chicago to celebrate with my dearest Lola and family. We did it all- deep dish pizza, hot dogs, drinks at the handcock, beluga experience, brunch, beer, Chagall, van Gogh, fish tacos, lake walk, coffee, sue the trex, and looked for the umbrellas. Thanks for the amazing adventures, and many more to come!
Beautiful and amazing weekend celebrating the marriage of two of our favorite people! So good to see so many of our good friends from near and far. There was bonfires and smores and yoga and flowers and rain and rainbows and donuts and champagne and music and dancing and joy, and the happiest couple!

Such an amazing weekend. Friends and family joined me for camping, a birthday BBQ, cheesecake, and three fourteeners. I had the most wonderful time and I am so grateful for all the awesome people I know. Year 29 is off to a great start!

Number fifty one: the big one.
Considered to be the most difficult Colorado fourteener for one reason; the knife edge. 100ft of exposed ridge line where shear rock faces abut each other forming a 90 degree angle with 1000 ft drops to either side. But first, you have to get there. 7 mile backpack in, camp at the lake, wake up at 2:30am, scale the saddle and rock gully in the dark, summit a 13er; then it's the knife edge between you and the summit. And once you finally reach your goal, there's nothing for it but to go back across the knife to come down again! It was a long, exhausting, and completely amazing day.
How does your garden grow?
Mine grows with weeds. Admittedly, I didn't have time to plant this spring because of when we moved in. However we do have an abundance of mint, oregano, basil, and green and yellow onions thanks to the previous owners. I am hoping to plant for the fall season soon... What should I try? Any tips?

This week has been dragging on hasn't it? We are entering the dog days of summer which are good only for sitting on the patio with drinks, and yet we still have so much that needs doing. Soça at least loves these days, perhaps that's why they're hers.

I just want to ride my motor-cicle...
It's good to try new things and learn new skills, right? DH thought to would be fun for us to take a motorcycle class together. I wasn't so sure. But...
It was awesome! We had an amazing time. And not only did I not fall over and impale myself, I was actually pretty good at it. And now... We kind of want to buy a motorcycle. Bad idea? Probably.

In telluride for the fireworks on the fourth, then up early early on Saturday to hike Rick of ages to the saddle below the peak. Dropped camp and summited before the hail. Next morning the mountain complete with class four sections and protection.
Feeling awesome and empowered to do these hard climbs! 50/60 = 83% completion.

It's been an amazing three years. It feels like more time and no time at all. Remember when we were all together; celebrating, dancing, laughing? I am so grateful for that time and all the time since.
This Saturday we were on the trail by 4am so we had this spectacular view of the Dragontail couloir snow climb just as the sunrise hit it. By 9am we reached the top after a hard climb, exhausted and exhilarated. This was our semifinal exam for the BMS class and I think we nailed it!
A five pitch climb up the seal's back, then a 200 ft repel from off the top of the nose. Hardcore awesomeness in the Boulder flatirons this weekend!
We closed on our new house today! Well be moving into the cottage tomorrow. We are so excited to live in this wonderful neighborhood and settle into the house and start a garden in the back yard. We are really happy. Hooray!
Here I am ascending a two story cliff by climbing a fixed line using prussic friction knots. With my pack on. Like a boss. This was one of the more difficult things I've ever done. Rock on!

2nd Snow day success! Crampons on steep snow, self belay, then vertical climbing with ice tools on a frozen ice column. It was heard work but lots of fun. Then, glissading and self arrest with an ice axe. Feeling pretty awesome and very sore.

There is something very empowering in being able to use simple instruments to stay found in the wilderness. Over the course of 6 hours we were able to pinpoint the exact location of 5 trees and use navigation techniques to make efficient paths between them.
Honestly, I was surprised at how well it worked. Here's me looking super dorky/awesome with my map, compass, and gear. Just as the weather was starting to move in and dust the tops of the trees with snow.
