sashimi

And speaking of dogs.... look what I made for my DM.

It's a mini-sasha!  A sashimi, if you will.  From the Jack Russel Terrier pattern in this book, it took quite a while to get all the details right, but I am very happy with the results.

buiscuits for four dogs

Just in case you were wondering, this is what is going on over here right now.  + one more not pictured because she is old and shy.  + finals.  + a new roommate. I'ts a bit of a mad house.  Or should I say, dog house.  Biscuits anyone?  Recipe from here.

You will need:

  • 3 1/3 cup (300g) rye flour
  • 1 cup (100g) fine oatmeal
  • 1 small apple
  • 1 medium-sized cooked potato
  • 1/2 cup (60g) smoked ham in cubes
  • 1 2/3 Tbs olive oil
  • ~1/2 cup of warm water
What to do:
  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F and cover baking pan with parchment paper
  2. In a food processor or blender, puree potato and apple with oil and water.
  3. Mix with remaining ingredients to form a smooth dough.  Add more water if needed.
  4. Roll the dough out to about 1/8 in thick on a floured surface and cut out shapes with a cookie cutter.
  5. Place biscuits onto a baking pan and bake for 20 minutes.
  6. Serve to your four four footed friends... they may even let you take pictures of them for one!

I've been thinking about making these too.  At least it finally seems to be spring here for real this time. How have your days been?

hey may

Happy Cinco de Mayo weekend!

In the oven: A coconut rum cake, based on this recipe, but with more rum.  I am also making tacos.
Outside: warming up.  Maybe the snow as stopped.  Maybe.  Not counting on it.
On the needles: Still cranking out the zigs.  Done soon... up next... mittens? A cardigan?
Reading: This classic, after I saw the musical, which was amazing
Watching: This video. One of the big reasons my life is so great is because my dog loves me.
What I am actually spending all my time doing: presentations, finals, grading. Semester is done next week.

That's it for me... how are you?

spring berries

What's going on outside?  Spring? Summer? Winter?  Snow? 65 degrees and sunny?  I can't keep up.
Whatever.  I'm making cupcakes with strawberries.

At least the fruits have a season, and at least the farmers market is open for business again.  Snow boots or sandals, I'll be out there with my dog every weekend from now on.  These are from my favorite GF cake book, with strawberry cream cheese frosting.  Other things that are awesome with strawberries... smoothies.   My new breakfast obsession, muesli. Also jam. And pie. Margs? I'm in if you're in. Hooray for berries!

snowed in

Snow storm in Colorado; we've got more fluffy white than we know what to do with!  It's time to hunker down indoors and bake cookies, and just enjoy the view outside.  The giant falling flakes, the dove hiding in the aspen trees, the puppy leaping through the drifts like a little snow fox.  It's a beautiful day to be home and inside. Cookies here.  Nom.

Who's up for knitting and coca?

hi april

Outside: beautiful warm sun, thunderstorms, snow tomorrow, ... more flowers everyday!
On the needles: this blanket (still), I hope I get it done in time...
Reading: Guns, Germs, and Steel.  Awesome.  I want to attend this guy's lectures every day.
In the oven: tater tots.  On the grill: elk brats.  Out on the patio with a beer.  Hammock is up.

Whether or not the weather cooperates, we're ready to be outside again!
Bring on the sunshine please.
How is your weather and knitting?

grateful

Thanks to all my friends for an awesome weekend.  I am so grateful to have you all in my life.

In the Happy Documentary, researchers discussed that one way to increase happiness is to keep a gratitude journal. I've been keeping one off and on, and there seem to be some recurring themes.... mostly, my DH, my awesome friends, my dog, where I live, and breakfast.  What are you grateful for?
